Schott Optovance Inc. has introduced a 2D VCSEL transceiver interconnect to address the emerging market of 2D parallel optical transceivers, a high-bandwidth version of very short reach (VSR) connections with more than 12 channels.

Schott's 2D VCSEL transceiver interconnects serve two functions: to guide enough light between parallel transceivers and to reroute the channels as needed. It is offered in configurations of 2-by-12 arrays and 12-by-22 arrays.

Schott presents two types of applications for high-bandwidth links, to provide the immediate fiber coupling between VCSEL or photodiode arrays and transceiver connectors, and to provide optical interconnect cables to span the typical backplane distances.
