Mobile communications solutions provider UTStarcom Inc. has selected Agere System's T8110 switching chip for its telecom equipment applications.

UTStarcom is integrating Agere's Ambassador TDM chips on its mSwitch VoIP telecommunications line card and 3G wireless switching equipment. In addition, UTStarcom is also using Agere's TDM circuit switching chip, called the T8105s, in its E1 telecommunications line card applications. The primary function of the ICs is to switch voice and TDM traffic to and from various chips and circuit boards within UTStarcom's voice and data processing telecommunications systems.

"Until recently, TDM switching chips have primarily been used in lower-capacity computer telephony applications," said John Sotir, marketing manager with Agere. "Now the T8110 chip can handle higher-capacity VoIP switching and 3G wireless infrastructure switching applications."
