Silicon Access Networks has announced that it is sampling the iFlow Packer Processor (iPP), touted to be the industry's first network processor that supports full-duplex data rates of 20Gbpstwice the speed of competing products.

The iPP is part of the company's iFlow Data Path Processing Platform suited for Metropolitan/Enterprise GbE and PoS applications. A single iPP device is claimed to support Layer 2 to Layer 7 switching and routing up to 20 full-duplex GbE ports simultaneously.

Shipped in a 1,170-ball HPBGA package, the device can process up to 30 million packets per second. It offers on-board packet buffering RAM, two receive and transmit SPI4.2 interfaces capable of up to 12.8Gbps each, and a 32-bit, 33MHz or 66MHz PCI 2.2 control plane interface.

The iPP is manufactured using a 0.135m, 1.2V CMOS process.
