Exar offers single-chip solution for timing extraction

Exar Corp. has announced that is sampling the XRT85L61 single-chip Building Integrated Timing Supply (BITS) clock receiver that extracts a stable timing reference for telecommunications equipment found at a Central Office (CO) installation, eliminating the need for additional discrete components to perform the function, as opposed to similar conventional products.

The 28-lead TSSOP device also supports the SDH environment where it can be used as part of a synchronization supply unit (SSU).

Network synchronization maintains the transmission quality to avoid timing slips that can degrade a network's functionality. The BITS clock (XRT85L61) extracts timing E1, T1, or 64Kbps signal information from a dedicated timing source, and this timing signal becomes the master timing reference for a given network element.

These clock signals can also be used as a T1/E1 receiver, extracting clock and data at 2.048Mbps and 1.544Mbps, and detecting line code violations and AIS.

All standard terminations for T1 and E1 are supported. The device has an on-chip crystal-less jitter attenuator with 32-bit FIFO that can be enabled or disabled depending on the application and mode of operation.

The XRT85L61 operates at 3.3V with 5V tolerance over the industrial temperature range. In 1,000 piece quantities, the XRT85L61 is priced at $17.
