ERNI backplane connector address 5Gbps apps

The ERNI Group of Companies has announced the release of the ERmet ZD board to backplane electrical connector system that provides a differential solution for applications in the range of 3Gbps to 5Gbps.

An extension of the company's Hard Metric connector family, the ERmet ZD connector shares the same layout dimension, pin heights, sequential mating dimensions, plastic coding keys, and press-fit hole requirements of the Hard Metric line.

It can also be integrated into existing backplanes and sub-rack designs that use the Hard Metric, CompactPCI, or Eurocard design standards.

The company claims that the connector system provides low crosstalk, low skew, improved trace routing, reliable dual beam contacts, 1.5mm mating intervals, and a rugged housing for 100-ohm differential signaling environment.

The ERmet ZD connector is available in a 25mm module with 40 differential pairs in a four pair-eight row design (80 signals with 40 grounds), 30 differential pairs in a three pair-six row design (60 signals with 30 grounds), and 20 differential pairs in a two pair-four row design (40 signals with 20 grounds).

It features a tightly coupled reference ground to control impedance and minimize connector noise. The ERmet ZD also features "L" shaped shield blades 1mm higher than the signal pin pairs to provide rugged mating and reduce the possibility of contact stubbing.
