TI 16-bit converter bundles 6 ADCs

Texas Instruments Inc. has introduced the ADS8364 16-bit ADC that packs six independent ADCs into a TQFP-64 package, allowing high signal throughput and simultaneous sampling in motor control, multi-axis positioning, power monitoring, and optical networking applications.

A member of the company's Burr-Brown product line, the ADS8364 provides 250KSa/s simultaneous sampling and conversion of all six input channels while consuming 69mW/channel and a 2.7V to 5.5V digital interface voltage.

The device is claimed by the company to provide 50 percent more channels and four times the throughput than competing devices.

Aside from the six ADCs, the device includes a reference and three buffers with an on-board FIFO for flexible and easy-to-use interface to DSPs and MCUs.

The ADS8364 is specified to have 14-bit no-missing codes with a 5V supply, and offers 13 LSB INL, 11.5 LSB DNL, and -92dB distortion at 100kHz.

Inputs to the S/H amplifiers are fully differential and maintained differential to the input of the ADC. This provides a common-mode rejection of 80dB at 50kHz, which is important in high-noise environments such as motor control and power conversion.

The ADC also offers a flexible high-speed parallel interface with a direct address or cycle mode. The output data for each channel is available as an 8-bit or 16-bit word.

Suggested resale pricing is $17.21 in 1,000 piece quantities.
