The company is set to sign an agreement with Leshan Radio Co. to establish a 6-inch wafer manufacturing fab in Sichuan for 0.55m analog semiconductors.

In relation to this, ON Semiconductor recently obtained approval from the Chinese government for its joint venture company with Leshan Radio, Leshan-Phoenix Semiconductor Co. Ltd, to invest up to $231 million for semiconductor operations. ON Semiconductor and Leshan Radio plan to initially produce advanced metal oxide semiconductor (MOS) devices and later on introduce more sophisticated analog technologies down to 0.255m, upon the completion of the fab.

In addition to the Leshan Phoenix, ON Semiconductor has area offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Chengdu, and Shenzhen, as well as design centers in Hong Kong and Shanghai.

"With its impressive quality record and growing reputation, Leshan Phoenix has provided us with a competitive advantage in China and around the world," said Steve Hanson, ON Semiconductor president and CEO. "This expansion will enable us to meet the needs of our growing customer base of indigenous Chinese companies and multinational enterprises within the country.
