Winbond Electronics Corp. America (WECA) has introduced the W6810 single-channel voice codec aimed at telephony, communications, and consumer applications requiring analog-to-digital or digital-to-analog conversion.

"The chip is based on WECA's advanced mixed-signal technology and as such, provides easy integration into new or existing designs," said Larry Gaddy, director of product marketing, WECA.

Available in 20-pin PDIP, SOG, SSOP, or TSSOP casings, the codec satisfies the ITU-T G.712 and ITU-T G.711 industry standard specs, and comes with pin-selectable 5-Law or A-law companding. The 5V device dissipates 25mW and operates at a -400C to 850C temperature range.

The W6810 is priced at $1.20 in volume quantities. An evaluation kit, the W6810DK, is also available and priced at about $150.
