ON Semi rolls out regulators for automotive apps

ON Semiconductor has introduced the NCV8501 and NCV8502 precision micropower voltage regulators for the power management of automotive applications including engine and transmission control, body and convenience, telematics, and safety.

The 150mA LDO devices are claimed to deliver low quiescent current across an extended temperature range. They also offer adjustable output voltages of 2.5, 3.3, 5, 8, and 10V with a 12 percent accuracy and a dropout voltage of 0.6V.

Both device families feature an active RESET circuit (with DELAY) and a flag monitor that jointly assure operation within the voltage regulation limits of a given application. They are also protected against reverse battery, short circuit, and thermal overload conditions, and can withstand a 60V peak transient voltage.

The NCV8501 features an ENABLE pin, allowing it to be turned off when not in use to conserve power. The NCV8502 RESET has an adjustable voltage threshold, allowing it to be optimized for use with different microcontrollers.

Both also feature a FLAG/MONITOR function that provides an early warning, allowing the microcontroller to perform an orderly shutdown.

The NCV8501 and NCV8502 are both offered in an SO-8 package and are priced at 51 cents each in 10,000-unit quantities.
