Allegro motor driver delivers 1500mA

Allegro MicroSystems Inc. has introduced the A3965 dual full-bridge PWM motor driver IC that incorportes two DMOS H-bridges, delivers up to 1500mA of output current, and motor supply operating voltages of 6V to 20V.

The DMOS output transistors feature low on-resistance rating for low power dissipation, while the ICs logic supply input operates with an input voltage as low as 2.85V making the device suitable for systems where logic supply is only available from a battery source.

Manufactured using the Allegro Bipolar CMOS DMOS 3G (ABCD3) process, the 24-lead plastic SOIC device has a sleep mode that disable all circuitry and typically draws <15A supply current from motor and logic supply, enabling the device to be used in portable and battery-operated stepper motor applications.

While in PWM mode, the fixed frequency ON pulses of each H-bridge are 1800 out-of-phase to minimize the peak demand required of the motor supply. Industry standard PHASE and ENABLE input terminals are also provided for use in controlling the speed and direction of a stepper motor with externally-applied PWM control signals.
