AMD delivers Athlon MP processors via 0.135m process

Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has introduced the Athlon MP processor 2200+ built on the company's 0.135m process, enabling the processors to achieve higher performance while lowering power requirements on a smaller die size.

Designed to deliver a dual-processor platform for servers and workstations, the Athlon MP processor 2200+ is the third and final of the Athlon family to move to the 0.135m process technology.

For server customers, the new device is claimed to provide the reliability and stability they need for mission-critical email, exchange, file, print and networking applications. For workstation users, such as engineers, architects and designers, the processor performs compute-intensive workstation applications, including digital content creation, and computer-aided design.

The processor is compatible with the Windows and Linux OS, and features QuantiSpeed architecture and Smart MP technology, allowing the Athlon MP processor 2200+ to integrate smoothly into existing infrastructures. Smart MP technology features dual point-to-point, high-speed 266MHz system buses with Error Correcting Code support designed to provide up to 2.1GBps per CPU of bus bandwidth in a dual-processor system.

Pricing is set at $224 in 1,000-unit quantities.
