Intel Corp. has expanded its communications processing portfolio with the addition of two new processors aimed at providing optimum performance and integrated technologies with low power consumption for cost-effective, flexible design of feature-rich networking system.

The ICX1100 control-plane processor incorporates an XScale core that operates up to 533MHz and is designed to provide efficient processing of control and management tasks for line cards that act as the high traffic connectivity and termination points within a networking platform.

It features 32KB each of instruction and data cache with 2KB mini-data cache. The 492-pin BGA also integrates two 10/100 Base-T Ethernet MACs with MII/RMII interfaces, as well as 16 GPIOs, two UARTs, and a 32-bit 33MHz/66MHz PCI v2.2 host and option interface.

The company also announced the release of the Low-Voltage Intel Xeon processor features the company's Hyper-Threading technology and a maximum performance of 1.6GHz, while providing reduced power consumption.

It is targeted at applications and services blades that handle the compute-intensive tasks of accounting, billing, and policy-tracking needed for network services.
