Fujitsu Quantum Devices Ltd. (FQD) and Sumitomo Electric Ind. Ltd (SEI) have enhanced their previously formed multi-source agreement (MSA) for a 10Gbps transmission laser diode (LD) module.

The earlier MSA defines a standard for 1.555m wavelength distributed feedback laser diode monolithically integrated with electro absorption modulator mounted onto a metal ceramic package with a driver IC and transmits data at speeds of 10Gbps in compliance with ITU-T G.691 and Telecodia GR-253-CORE. In response to growing requests from the customers, the MSA specifications were defined in further detail and new product types, including direct modulation type, were added to increase the ease of use for the designers of system equipment and optical transceivers and transponders.

In addition, NEC Compound Semiconductor Devices Ltd, NTT Electronics Corp., and Samsung Electronics Co. Ltd have joined the MSA.
