Maxim 5GHz LNA has low-power shutdown function

The MAX2649 5GHz LNA from Maxim Integrated Products Inc. features low-power shutdown function that allows the device to draw <15A to preserve battery life in portable 802.11a WLAN and 5GHz cordless phones.

The integrated shutdown feature is also claimed to save board space and about 10 cents worth of external components.

Available in a 1-by-1.5mm UCSP casing, the LNA provides 17dB gain, 2.1dB NF, and 0dBm input IP3 at 5.2GHz while consuming only 12.5mA. The high-gain, low-noise, and high linearity performance make it flexible for use as a first- or second-stage LNA, an LO buffer, or a transmitter driver amplifier.

Manufactured on an advanced SiGe process, the device also has an integrated active bias network that saves one transistor and three passive components, while maintaining stable RF performance over supply and temperature variations.
