TDK Corp. has announced that it has developed the DN70 ferrite material that offers lower total harmonic distortion (THD) and is targeted for use in ADSL and xDSL modem line transformers.

An xDSL modem's line transformer operates between the 30kHz and 1.1MHz range and requires lower THD characteristics for accurate transmission of data. The transformer also requires ferrite materials that have higher initial permeability and lower hysteresis characteristics.

The DN70 is claimed to reduce THD by about 5dB compared to the company's previous DN40 material. The material also comes with an EP core which reduces the number of turns in a transformer by about 25 percent and core volume by 40 percent.
