The AWS5518 SPDT GaAs MMIC from ANADIGICS Inc. combines an isolation of up to 32dB, insertion loss of 0.4dB, and linearity of 48dBm, to deliver low distortion and power consumption, enabling the device to be used in multiband wireless handsets and LAN equipment.

Manufactured using the company's pHEMT process, the device can perform diversity switching in WLANs, transmit/receive functions, and antenna selection for better signal quality.

"The combination of ANADIGICS' 6-inch GaAs technology and pHEMT capabilities enables us to lead the market by developing RF switches that meet the high performance requirements of next generation handsets," claimed Dr. Ali Khatibzadeh, VP of Wireless Products at ANADIGICS.

"The AWS5518 provides handset manufacturers with a low-cost, reduced-size, high performance RF switch that is perfectly suited to medium power wireless applications," he added.

Housed in a space-saving 6 Pin, SOT-26 plastic package, the AWS5518 can be controlled with a positive voltage, negative voltage, or combination of both. It works down to a control voltage as low as 2.7V.

The device is quoted at 45 cents in quantities of 10,000 units.
