Absopulse Electronics Ltd's BCH 1500-AEQ two-step battery charger handles standard 120V, 60-cell gel-cell, and sealed lead-acid batteries for industrial, utility, and telecom applications. The fan-cooled, single-out-put charger delivers up to 1.5kW from a universal ac power-factor-corrected input.

It initially equalizes the voltage at 144Vdc at 10A (constant-voltage charge), then switches to a 138V float voltage when the output current drops below 2A at which time the batteries are fully charged.

Features include inrush-current limiting, rectangular-current limiting with short circuit protection, overvoltage protection, and a self-resetting thermostat for thermal protection. Line/load regulation is 11 percent, output ripple/noise is 500mVpp and efficiency is 80 percent minimum at full load. MTBF is 100,000h or more at 450C. Standard operating-temperature range is 00C to 500C.

The BCH 1500-AEQ measures 190.5-by-127-by-381mm, is priced at $1,450 per unit and carries a 12-month warranty. It complies with IEC950, CSA 22-2-950 and UL1950 safety standards, and meets EN 55022 Class A EMI standards for conducted emissions.

A wide range of options, including custom output voltages, an extended operating-temperature range of -400C to 600C and a 3kW version providing N+1 redundancy, is also available.
