Compal adopts Motorola i.250 GSM/GPRS platform

Compal Communication has selected Motorola Inc.'s i.250 Innovative Convergence platform for the development of its 2.5G cellular handsets and Smartphones.

According to Motorola, the i.250 total system solution will provide Compal with the full breadth of silicon-to-software components needed to develop low-cost and quality handsets and Smartphones, which includes an integrated chipset, comprehensive reference design, GSM/GPRS software, and development tools, as well as tests and services. This complete system approach is expected to allow Compal to focus its resources on product differentiation and customizing handset features to fulfill its customer's requirements.

The i.250 Innovative Convergence platform is also designed to simplify and expedite the GSM/GPRS handset development and manufacturing process by organizing the tools and pieces of the solution into three major development environments. Included are: the IDE, which features a comprehensive hardware and software environment, a Radio Test Environment, which includes tools for configuring features, testing and fine-tuning radio performance, and a Manufacturing Test Environment, which provides software and manufacturing adaptation tools and services to enable a customer to decrease manufacturing set-up time by ramping up a production line.
