Cellon Int. has closed its acquisition of Royal Philips Electronics Consumer Communications' (PCC) R&D operations, which holds interests in wireless terminals, modules, and handsets. The France-based Philips R&D operation, now called Cellon France, currently employs more than 300 technical staff, bringing Cellon's total staffing to more than 500 worldwide.

Cellon France specializes in design of GSM/GPRS/UMTS platforms and terminals. Its operations include an Accelerated Reliability test environment for product reliability testing, a Faraday test environment for SAR measurement and FTA/GCF certification, and a prototype run production line, enabling the company to develop and test production techniques for its designs. Cellon France is also a certified FTA testing house.

Cellon's acquisition of PCC's R&D operation was part of a larger agreement between Philips and China Electronics Corp. (CEC), regarding the transfer of manufacturing and design activities and the maintaining of a focused sales and marketing activity. CEC is Cellon's partner in CEC Wireless, Cellon's China-based operating unit.
