Accelerated Technology has announced the availability of an add-on component to the XRAY debugger allowing for full awareness or visibility into the kernel's activities, for the Symbian OS v6.1 used in mobile phones.

The add-on allows the debugger to fully-support the Symbian OS debug format and enables XRAY to display kernel objects, such as queues, semaphores, and memory allocation for the Symbian OS processes. The debugger also contains an OS Resources Window to provide a graphical view of the Symbian OS kernel objects.

"This release now offers Symbian OS users the functionality usually only found with an embedded RTOS," said Robert Day, director of marketing for the Embedded Systems Division of Mentor Graphics. "We now provide the best debugging tool available for Symbian OS developers by enabling target-side debugging in both C/C++ and assembly language."

"The XRAY Debugger enables developers to pinpoint and correct software problems early in the development cycle, thereby reducing development costs and accelerating time-to-market when developing software for Symbian OS based phones and communicators," said Jerry Panagrossi, director of the Symbian Technology Partner Program.

An early release version of the XRAY Debugger for ARM with Symbian OS Awareness is currently available, with full product release anticipated in October 2002. Prices for licenses start at $3,450.
