A front-terminal valve-regulated lead-acid battery from EnerSys Inc., the VX100F, has a design life of 10 years at 400C, more than double the life of similar batteries, according to the company (formerly Yuasa). This suits it for backup applications to power remote telecom switches.

The VX100F series incorporates several design features that are said to extend life at high temperatures. These include positive terminal plates made of pure lead for enhanced corrosion resistance, a polycarbonate/ABS blend for the battery's case and cover to provide added mechanical strength and thermal stability, and a high-quality compression grommet post seal. Front-terminal connections make the VX100F simple to install.

Internally, the VX100F includes absorbed-glass-mat separators that eliminate acid spillage and leaks, a highly flame-retardant case (UL-rated VO), flame arrestors in each monoblock, as well as recessed terminals to reduce the risk of short-circuits. The batteries are certified to UL and Uniform Building Code seismic zone 4, and comply with IEC896/2 and BS6290 part 4.

The battery is manufactured in 8V and 12V models (8VX100F and 12VX100F, respectively), with a rated capacity of 100Ah (eight-hour rate at 250C). Pricing starts at $500 per unit. Delivery is two weeks ARO.
