Nanotron Technologies GmbH has introduced a wireless networking IC that is expected to pose a challenge to the already existing Bluetooth, Home RF, and IEEE 802.11b system solutions prevalent in the market today.

Designed for use in battery-powered mobile applications, the nanoNET TRX RF IC operates at the 2.4GHz ISM band and is based on the company's Multi Dimensional Multiple Access (MDMA) transmission technology.

The MDMA technology is based on double spreading principles, offering the benefits of a dynamic transmission system, the flexibility of TDMA with transmission links, and the control of transmission quality. The system uses "chirp-impulses" for the transmission of information, which are claimed by the company to be more robust against disturbances and can be generated and processed relatively simply.

Manufactured using the SiGe process, the nanoNET TRX is able to transmit at data rate of up to 2Mbps, features a portable protocol stack, and supports various microcontroller platforms and network topologies.
