Zygo Corp. will dispose of its Zygo TeraOptix business unit and facility located in Westborough, Massachusetts. Zygo's TeraOptix unit is a provider of technology for fiber-coupled and high-density multichannel optical solutions. ZYGO is currently seeking a buyer for this business.

According to Zygo, with the changes the telecommunications industry experienced, including excess capacity, capital spending cutbacks, and delays in deployment of high-speed technologies, demand for components produced by its TeraOptix unit has significantly decreased. Zygo's latest move aims to allow the company to concentrate on growth and profitability in its other two markets: semiconductor and industrial.

Cessation of operations at Zygo's TeraOptix business unit is scheduled not later than November 30, 2002, which automatically terminates the company's venture into the telecommunications business.
