ON Semiconductor has introduced the MC100EP809 1:9 3.3V differential HSTL/PECL to HSTL clock driver with LVTTL clock select and enable, for use across backplanes in computer workstations and servers including Intel's Itanium platform.

The newest member of the company's clock and data management family of high frequency products, the device addresses the move by designers to reduce the operating voltage of their product to limit the power consumption and thermal dissipation.

The MC100EP809 is compatible with 3V to 3.6V supplies and has a current drain <90mA. The input interface is selected by the CLK_SEL pin utilizing a LVTTL interface.

With both design flexibility and HSTL inputs, the device can drive HSTL signals throughout the circuit backplane or convert the PECL-based timing signal from a master PLL clock generator to an HSTL-based configuration for distributing nine separate clock signals. The HSTL standard also allows both differential and single-ended communications.

Available in a 32-pin LQFP casing, the MC100EP809 is claimed to offer a skew of 25ps and jitter <1ns.
