Toshiba SDIO card halves power consumption

Toshiba Corp. has announced the availability of a Bluetooth SDIO card to provide wireless communications capabilities to mobile and digital consumer products equipped with an SD slot. The SDIO card supports wireless digital uploads and downloads in PCs, PDAs, mobile phones, and digital still cameras.

The device is claimed to consume 50 percent lesser power than the company's previous SDIO card and fully conforms with the SDIO Card Type-B specification for Bluetooth, as well as Bluetooth v1.1.

Available in a 24-by-40-by-2.1mm package, the new SDIO card supports wireless data exchange up to 10m maximum and integrates profiles and protocols such as SDP, RFCOMM, and L2CAP.
