Oxford bridge IC integrates embedded compatibility mode

Oxford Semiconductor Ltd has added an embedded compatibility mode to its OXCF950B 16-bit PC Card UART bridge chip that allows generic drivers to access the 15Mbps synchronous UART and a local bus interface.

By incorporating a bridge to an 8-bit Local Bus, the OXCF950B allows PC Card designers to expand the capability of their products through the addition of peripherals to the bus. Using indirect addressing, Local Bus mode is pin selected and supports PCMCIA and complex embedded applications.

Packaged in a 48-pin TQFP casing, the QXCF950B is also available in a 48-ball BGA version for card circuits requiring more room. The device also extended its operating input voltage from 2.7V to 3.6V, while power-down modes has also been added to minimize power consumption.

The OXCF950B also features a Microwire-programmed EEPROM that enables modification of attribute memory, UART, and Local Bus configuration registers during power-up or hard/soft reset.
