Analog Devices Inc. has released two new members of its dBCOOL thermal management controller ICs that can dynamically adjust fan speeds for systems in which internal configuration offer provisions for PCI or AGP add-in cards or systems operating in external conditions.

Targeted at desktop PCs and laptops, the ADT7460 and ADT7463 controls and monitors up to four fan speeds and up to five supply voltages, with the ADT7463 also offering system and processor voltage monitoring.

Both also feature Pentium 4 processor Thermal Control Circuit (TCC) monitoring, which allows them to monitor thermal control activity of Pentium 4 CPUs. TCC monitoring also detects and adjusts for degradation due to fansink or chassis fan performance reduction due to normal operation.

The ADT7460/7463 provide a proprietary thermal operating point limit, which controls system cooling regardless of system configuration or worst-case operating conditions.

They are available in 16-pin and 24-pin QSOP casings and are priced starting at $2.35 each in 10,000-piece quantities.
