The MTC5534 10.7Gbps to 12.5Gbps Electrical Return-to-Zero (ERZ) modulator driver from Multilink Technology Corp. allows direct generation of an RZ data stream signal using a single modulator driver and a standard single-stage modulator, thereby reducing the size and cost of implementing RZ transmission on a line card to about that of a traditional NRZ line card.

A part of the Micro-Module family, the MTC5534 is pinout-compatible with the company's NRZ Micro-Modules, allowing users to reuse NRZ line card designs with minimal modifications for RZ transmission.

The MTC5534 exhibits an output voltage of 7.5Vpp and typical jitter of 5ps. It also features precision output signal equalization, output amplitude control, output pulse width control, and precision amplitude monitoring circuitry.

The device is available in an 18-by-18mm BGA package with a topside heatsink for thermal management and is priced at $3,000 in sample quantities.
