Mitsubishi Electric supports G.729 Consortium

Mitsubishi Electric Corp. has joined the G.729 Consortium, an association that gathers IP rights of major players in the telecommunication industry, including France Telecom, Universite de Sherbrooke, and Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corp. (NTT).

Sipro Lab Telecom Inc. represents the G.729 Consortium. Sipro is a privately-owned company that offers standardized voice compression technologies for the telecommunication market through a single point of contact for hundreds of patents. According to Sipro, they have so far helped more than fifty companies worldwide obtain a license to use the G.729 standard within their products.

In today's market, the G.729 standard is found in equipment and applications such as VoIP gateways, IP phones, videoconferencing and teleconferencing, unified messaging, Internet telephony, and other applications where the quality of service, delay and bandwidth are important.
