A single-board computer (SBC) from Trenton Technology Inc. employs the Intel Pentium 4 processor and Intel 845-E chipset to produce a PCI/ISA product that is said to offer powerful computing capabilities and long life.

The T41 board combines the Pentium 4's NetBurst microarchitecture with 2GBps of DDR memory, a 400MHz/533MHz system bus, a 10/100BaseT Ethernet port, and a 10/100/1,000 Ethernet LAN port.

"The Intel Pentium 4 and the 845-E chipset offers extended life cycle support and provides scalability that can translate into long-term total cost of ownership," said Joe Jensen, GM of the Embedded Intel Architecture Division.

"This enables Trenton Technology to offer a single-board computer that can be easily and cost-effectively be used in embedded computing applications," Jensen said.

Speeds for the board start at 2GHz with a 400MHz system bus and 2.4GHz with a 533MHz system bus. Trenton engineers say that the 400MHz/533MHz system bus on the T41 enables it to provide the higher data throughput required in many data-intensive embedded applications.

The board uses DDR200/266 memory, which vastly improves the speed of the memory data traffic, and is available in capacities up to 2GB.

Dual-LAN ports on the T41 include a LAN port 1, which functions as a traditional 10/100BaseT port, and a LAN port 2 that offers gigabit connectivity in addition to the traditional 10/100BaseT interface. RJ-45 connectors, located on the I/O bracket, provide the mechanical interface to the Ethernet networks. Ultra160 SCSI is on board the T41 as well, providing transfer operations up to 160Mbps.

The board supports a wide variety of video resolutions, with 4MB of video memory that can accommodate SXGA (1,280x1,024)-pixel resolution up to a color depth setting of 24-bit True Color (16 million colors).

Other features include a PCI/ISA bus interface support, hardware monitoring, two serial ports, dual USB ports, an enhanced bidirectional parallel-port interface, a watchdog timer and PS/2 mouse, keyboard, and floppy-drive interface. Prices start at $2,100.
