The Endura ISL6226 synchronous buck PWM and LDO combo controller of Intersil Corp. operates over the 5V to 24V voltage range, allowing it to power chipsets, memory, and audio and graphics in a wide range of portable and fixed information appliances such as notebook PCs, web tablets, portable data terminals, and blade servers.

By integrating the PWM and LDO controller into a single 24-lead SSOP case, component count and cost is reduced in the package by eliminating the need for a current sense resistor, discrete Schottky diode, and bypass capacitor. In addition, the company claims that the IC only requires a single resistor for current-limit protection.

The PWM controller outputs 0.9V to 93 percent of the input voltage and features a hysteretic mode to maintain efficiency for light-load conditions. It has 300kHz/600kHz switching frequency and features undervoltage, overvoltage, and overcurrent protection.

The linear LDO regulator delivers up to 3A of current and an output voltage of 0.8V to 3V by using an external MOSFET or up to 3.8V by using an external NPN transistor. It also features overcurrent and overvoltage protection.
