The VJ-2000 LS automated x-ray inspection (AXI) system of VJ Electronix is capable of inspecting boards up to 609.6-by-914.4mm and provides up to 5000x magnification for BGAs, wirebonds, and other chip scale packages.

The device also features a closed-loop, servo-driven platform that allows the inspector to maintain better than 5mil locational accuracy, while a 5-axis manipulator facilitates component/defect location.

Also integrated is the Nexus 200 software that provides Windows NT-based image analysis and CAD-based programming. As with the company's other machines, the VJ-2000 LS includes a 20GB HDD and a CD writer for instant image and data archival.

The company has also introduced a nanofocus tube for obtaining x-ray images of areas as small as 0.55m. The tube is claimed to provide high levels of magnification with sharp image resolution and offers a wide x-ray beam angle on the source to allow inspection using oblique views. The source comes with a self-contained forced air-cooling system.

Together with the proprietary Advanced Defect Recognition software, the nanofocus tube analyzes defects such as fine bond wire cracks, tiny voids in flip-chip solder balls, or microvias. The nanofocus tube is available as an option for all of VJ Electronix standard x-ray inspection systems.
