Fairchild switch fits flyback power supply apps

The FS8S0765RC off-line power switch from Fairchild Semiconductor integrates an avalanche-rated SenseFET (650V minimum breakdown rating) with a current mode PWM IC featuring primary side regulation, and is designed for use in CRT monitor flyback power supply applications.

Available in a TO-220-5L package, the device requires an 805A startup current and draws 15mA during operation. It also features a burst mode operation that enables it to dissipate <2W, 265VAc and reduce switching loss.

Internal features include overvoltage, overload, overcurrent, and thermal shutdown protection. Other features are integrated fixed oscillator, under voltage lockout, optimized blanking and a gate turn-on/turn-off driver, as well as temperature-compensated precision current sources for loop compensation and fault protection circuitry.

To eliminate the screen noise generated by switching action, the FS8S0765RC turns on its internal MOSFET synchronously with the external sync signal.

The device is rated over the -250C to 850C temperature range and is priced at $1.50 in quantities of 1,000.
