SatCon Technology Corp., a provider of critical powering systems, has been awarded a $1.1 million contract from EDO Corp., Marine and Aircraft Systems, for the design and development of a power converter for a new mine sweeping system for the U.S. Navy.

The power converter will be a critical component of the "Organic Airborne and Surface Influence Sweep" (OASIS) system. The requirements for its use on board an MH-60 helicopter necessitated the use of SatCon's advanced packaging and thermal management technology. Delivery of the first prototype is scheduled for late 2003.

The OASIS system is a critical element in the U.S. Navy's Mine Warfare strategy and allows Battle Group commanders the capability to provide immediate access to mine countermeasures for its operating forces, thereby improving response capability to meet critical missions.
