RF Micro Devices Inc. (RFMD), a provider of proprietary RF ICs for wireless communications applications, has agreed to purchase Resonext Communications Inc., a privately held company that provides complete and integrated CMOS WLAN solutions for 802.11a and multiband platforms.
The acquisition of Resonext is expected to significantly expand RFMD's market, complement the company's growing presence in 802.11b products, and leverage its expertise in multi-standard power amplifiers (PAs).
Resonext's product portfolio focuses on 802.11a and emerging multiband WLAN technologies. Recently, Resonext launched the production of its first 802.11a chipset and multiband chipset for 802.11a/b/g applications, complementing RFMD's line of radio and baseband components for 802.11b applications.
"We expect the acquisition to accelerate our roadmap to a/b/g multiband chipsets and provide us with key technologies for the development of emerging multimode applications for handsets and other markets," said Jerry Neal, EVP of marketing and strategic development. "We expect these strengths, when combined with our current advantages in WLAN and our advanced PA capabilities, will enable RFMD to continue to grow share in 802.11b and quickly build a foothold in the 802.11a and multiband markets." |
