Proxim Corp. has announced the availability of the ORiNOCO 802.11a/b ComboCard that is equipped with authentication security features including dynamic keying, user name and password authentication, and mutual authentication, aside from the Advanced Encryption Standard and WEP encryption features.

The CardBus-format device allows users to access either an 802.11b or 802.11a wireless network, taking advantage of 54Mbps data rate and high bandwidth on an 802.11a network and seamlessly transitioning to established 802.11b networks.

It also stores multiple location profiles, making it simpler for users to switch networks or locations.

The ORiNOCO ComboCard is available in Gold and Silver levels, with the Silver type delivering standard WiFi-compliant WEP security up to 152-bits, while the Gold type offers enhanced security including 802.1x with dynamic rekeying. Both cards include driver support for Windows XP, 2000, ME, 98SE, and NT 4.0.

The Silver ORiNOCO ComboCard has a list price of $149 and the Gold ORiNOCO ComboCard has a list price of $179.
