Agere Systems has announced that Huawei Technologies Co. Ltd, a network equipment supplier in China, will purchase a full suite of Agere's ICs to be used in optical networking systems for metropolitan and access networks. Under the terms of the agreement, Agere will provide chips for line cards, which handle multiple networking protocols, channels, reaches, and rates in optical transport systems.

Agere will provide Huawei with seven devices from its portfolio of optical networking ICs, which includes framers, pointer-processors, cross-connects, data engines, and mixed-signal transceivers. Among the optical transport chips, Agere will supply Huawei with its MARS 2.5G and MARS 10G framers.

Further, Huawei will also utilize Agere's 8207 CelXpres ATM switching chip in its multiservice access platform technology and Agere's ATM port controller processing chip in its broadband multiservice and access platforms.
