Yang An Electronics Co. Ltd has revealed plans to construct a PCB offshore plant in Wuxi, mainland China. James Yang, president, stated, "We have already purchased a land in Wuxi. Construction is scheduled to begin in February next year, and to be completed at the end of 2003. Mass production is set to start in early 2004."

Yang, added, "Our customers have already moved their assembly lines in mainland China and besides, we receive bigger outputs from our customers' offshore assembly lines as compared to Taiwan."

The offshore plant's initial capacity is expected to reach 200,000 square feet of four-layer PCBs designed for use in PC motherboards. Yang added, "We plan to also produce models designed for use in notebook computers and optical boards."

Yang stated, "Prices for Taiwan-made motherboards decreased by 10 to 15 percent beginning early this year and until now. The current price is at $199 to $200 per board. However, the prices from mainland-China companies range from $160 to $170 each. In order to offer competitive prices, we have to launch offshore factories in mainland China."
