Murata Mfg Co. Ltd has launched an extremely small Bluetooth module, the Blue Module, incorporating Cambridge Silicon Radio's (CSR) BlueCore2 chip.

Murata's Blue Module, a full HCI level unit, integrates active devices and passive components to provide a compact solution for the wireless market. The CSR Bluetooth-enabled module includes Flash memory, band pass filters, and other passives contained within the device; an RF and baseband one-chip IC, crystal oscillator and additional passives that are mounted on the substrate.

"Murata required a Bluetooth chip that would enable them to produce the smallest Bluetooth modules possible without having to comprise on functionality," said Eric Janson, worldwide vice president of marketing, CSR. "CSR's BlueCore2, with its fully qualified silicon, small footprint down to 6mm-by-6mm, and full featured Bluetooth protocol stack enables OEMs like Murata to produce modules with a very short time to market."
