GaAs photodiode array revs response at low bias

Hamamatsu Corp.'s G8921-01 GaAs photodiode array is said to provide high-speed response at low bias voltage as well as low dark current and low capacitance. Featuring a four-element array design, the unit is aimed at high-speed optical data links and other optical communications applications.

With a response rate of 2.5Gbps per channel, the photodiode array is specified for a total response rate of 10Gbps. The high-speed response is generated at a low bias voltage of 2V. Dark current is typically 2pA, and the G8921-01 has typical terminal capacitance of 0.35pF. The array has a spectral response range of 470nm to 870nm and achieves peak sensitivity of 0.5A/W at 850nm.

The array has a small active area, of only 0.06mm per channel with an element pitch of 250mm. In addition to the standard four-element array, the company can design the G8921-01 to have as many as 16 elements to suit specific customer requirements. The part is surface-mountable and measures 6.4-by-2.3-1mm.

The G8921-01 starts at $38.10 in large quantities.
