Alliance Semiconductor Corp. has agreed to acquire Chip Engines Inc., a fabless supplier of silicon solutions for next-generation Metropolitan Area Network platforms.
Based in Sunnyvale, California, Chip Engines is among the first companies to develop a family of ICs based on the Resilient Packet Ring, Multi-Protocol Labeled Switching, and Differentiated Services Code Point, which are the basis of next-generation 10GbE and MAN switching and routing systems.
The addition of the Chip Engines product lines complement those of the Alliance System Logic Solutions business unit, which develops and delivers high-bandwidth chip to chip interconnects based on HyperTransport technology for networking, storage, and server applications. The Chip Engines product line is also expected to be instrumental in the development of next generation products while enhancing the capabilities of Alliance's current product offerings. |
