ADI ships industry's first 5V CMOS line driver

The AD8328 line driver IC from Analog Devices Inc. is touted to be the industry's first 5V CMOS driver for DOCSIS 1.0, 1.1, and 2.0-compatible cable modems, as well as OpenCable-compatible digital STBs.

The variable gain amplifier has a gain range of 59dB, programmable in 1dB steps using an 8-bit serial word. It accepts a differential or single-ended input, while its output is specified for driving a 75-ohm load through a 2:1 transformer. Worst-case distortion is -54dBc at 65MHz and an output of 60dBmV.

Available in a 20-lead QSOP and sampling in a 20-lead LFCSP, the AD8328 operates from a single 5V supply and features a transmit disable mode that reduces quiescent current to 2.6mA. A sleep mode feature is also available, which reduces current to 0.2mA. The device is screened for operation over the -40C to 85C temperature range and is priced at $1.99 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
