Fairchild regulator powers latest AMD processors

AMD has selected Fairchild Semiconductor Int.'s FAN5098 dc/dc voltage regulator IC to support its upcoming Opteron and AMD Athlon processors with Hammer technology.

The FAN5098 is intended for use in providing power regulation for the CPU VCORE in desktop, workstation, and server applications. The FAN5098 uses a multi-phase architecture, including control-loop methods to improve load regulation and transient response, specifically addressing the requirements of advanced microprocessors.

"The new Fairchild FAN5098 voltage regulator provides efficient power regulation for the CPU VCORE in AMD solutions," said Ed Gasiorowski, director of the AMD Infrastructure Enablement Group. "Shared AMD and Fairchild customers will benefit from stable, reliable solutions."
