Organizers of Electronica 2002, the 20th International Trade Fair for Components and Assemblies in Electronics, say more than 2,800 exhibitors have signed up and that 85,000 visitors are expected from Germany and abroad.

The show, to be held at the Trade Fair Centre in Munich from November 12-15, will be divided into key sections for specific target groups. The new structure of the show reflects technology trends in the industry, said a spokesman for the organizers, Messe Mnchen GmbH.

Major sections are:

? Automotive Innovation

? Embedded Systems

? The World of MEMS

In the Automotive Innovation user forum in Hall C2, the main fields of emphasis are applications for telematics, bus systems, safety and accident prevention, and the 42V electrical system.

The Embedded Systems arena will occupy the whole of Hall A3 and there will be an Embedded Systems Congress in Munich from 11 to 13 November. In the MEMS arena exhibitors will be showcasing mobile phones, tire-pressure monitoring systems, and fiber-optic data transmission technology.

The show is now divided into 17 segments, each a community in its own right. The electromechanical components segment has been split into interconnection technology, cables, and switches. Other new segments are electronic design, test and measurement, housing technology, and servos and drive elements.

The largest area is occupied by semiconductors, followed by passive components and connectors. This order reflects roughly their relative importance on the market.

Another highlight at Electronica 2002 will be the traditional Electronica forum on the first day of the fair. Top-level representatives of the international electronics industry will discuss the topic "Semiconductor Industry: Who are the future creators of demand?"

Dr Joachim Ensslin, managing director of Messe Mnchen GmbH, said Electronica is the number one communications platform for the electronics industry because it develops with it. "It takes up technological developments and integrates them into the trade-fair layout. It reflects the entire spectrum of electronics, so exhibitors and visitors benefit from a large number of synergies. It is also the international media event for the electronics industry: over 900 journalists from about 38 countries are again expected to come to Electronica 2002."

Record figures for the 2001 show underline Electronica's importance, with 3,050 exhibitors - 54 percent from outside Germany - and 83,000 specialist visitors.

The show took place for the first time in 1964. It is part of global electronics net, the worldwide electronics network of Munich Trade Fairs International. This includes trade fairs around the world and an Internet portal.

Key world fairs organized by Messe Mnchen GmbH include Electronica, Productronica, and LASER.World. Regional fairs include componex/electronicIndia, electronicChina, electronicAmericas, and electronicAsia.
