Texas Instruments Inc. has announced the availability of a new router software package for its AR5 ADSL router platform, which allows service providers to distribute residential class routers with minimal software installation by users.

The Linux-base software includes feature sets with support for basic router protocols, including network address translation, application layer gateways, point-to-point protocol over Ethernet, IP Security pass thru for security, and DHCP.

Additionally, the AR5 router software package is based on the company's core software for DSL, cable and wireless networking, allowing customers to leverage the software knowledge across multiple broadband technology products.

The router software package runs on TI's broadband communications processor which is combined with the company's programmable DSP and analog-based DSL PHY technology. The communications processor shares a common architecture with TI's other broadband products enabling additional flexibility and design reuse for broadband OEMs.
