Advanced Micro Devices Inc. has introduced the mobile Athlon XP processor 2200+, its highest performance processor ever for notebook PCs.

Manufactured using the company's 0.13?m copper process technology, the processor features PowerNow technology that extends battery life and 3DNow Professional for enhanced multimedia capabilities.

"The mobile AMD Athlon XP processor 2200+ is designed with notebook PC customers in mind to offer high levels of performance and productivity at home, on a flight or a client's conference room," said Ed Ellett, VP of Client Business for AMD. "The new mobile processor also provides choice for customers, delivering an uncompromised notebook platform."

As with previous mobile Athlon XP processors, the 2200+ device features QuantiSpeed architecture, which incorporates a nine-issue, fully pipelined superscalar microarchitecture, a superscalar floating point unit, hardware data pre-fetch, and exclusive and speculative Translation Look-aside Buffers (TLB).

It is compatible with the company's Socket A in infrastructure and supports the advanced 200MHz and 266MHz AMD Athlon front-side bus options.

The new mobile AMD Athlon XP processor 2200+ is priced at $186 each in 1,000-unit quantities.
