RF Micro Devices Inc. has announced the availability of the RF3140 quad-band power amplifier (PA) module that integrates power control circuitry using the collector control method to eliminate the need for external directional couplers, detector diodes, power control ASICs, and other power control circuitry and meet ETSI transient spectrum and bust timing requirements for GSM.

Launched at the electronica 2002 trade fair in Munich, Germany the PA represents the company's second generation of PowerStar products and is designed for use as the final RF amplifier in single- and multi-band GSM850, EGSM, DCS, and PCS handheld digital cellular equipment, and other applications in the 824MHz to 849MHz, 880MHz to 915MHz, 1.71GHz to 1.785GHz, and 1.85GHz to 1.91GHz bands.

The RF3140 is similar to the company's previously released RF3110 device, but adds quad-band functionality in the same product footprint. It is manufactured using the company's GaAs HBT process technology and is available in a 10-by-10mm leadless chip carrier.
