The ADE7754 metering IC from Analog Devices Inc. meets the growing demand to provide more information about three-phase connections by supplying active energy (W), apparent energy (VA), rms values for voltage and current, and waveform sample data.

A part of the company's ADE family of metering ICs, the 24-lead SOIC device includes digital power and phase and offset calibration registers for all three-phases. These registers are adjustable through the serial interface and allow the manufacturer to quickly calibrate errors introduced by external components.

The IC features an accuracy with <0.1 percent linearity error over a dynamic range of 1,000 to 1, and operates from a single 5V power supply. The analog front-end includes on-chip phase compensation, suited for direct interface with current transformers.

The ADE7754 is compatible with 3- and 4-wire distribution systems and can be used in three-phase commercial and industrial revenue meters or submeters, three-phase motors or generators, and industrial control applications.

Additional features include no-load threshold, power supervisory circuitry, on-chip temperature sensor, line period measurement, negative power flow indication, peak voltage and current measurement, and high frequency calibration output.

The ADE7754 is priced at $5.30 per unit in 1,000-piece quantities.
