Designed for embedded system applications, the W6691 ISDN S/T controller from Winbond Electronics Corp. integrates an S/T-transceiver and three HDLC controllers each with a flexible FIFO having a 64-byte D channel and two 128-byte B channels.

The chip can be configured by an external pin to operate in TE, LT-S, and LT-T modes. It can also be used for an NT2 application when the LT mode is selected. The IC features either a PCM or GCI bus to connect with a CODEC chip for voice applications. For other applications, the W6691 provides a B channel switching function between PCM, GCI, and Layer-2.

Available in a 64-pin LQFP casing, the controller operates from a 3.3V supply and features two extended external interrupts, as well as an internal DPLL circuit to generate the DCL and FSC signal for NT2 applications. The W6691 also provides a 7.68MHz OSC signal for clock use in TE or NT2 applications.
