Tyco Electronics has announced the addition of the MultiGig RT-2 series of signal modules to its MultiGig RT Connector family and is designed to handle signal speeds between 3Gbps and 6.4Gbps with contact densities of 113 contacts per inch. It extends its signal handling capability to 10Gbps when utilizing serdes semiconductor technology.

The connector family uses printed circuit wafers instead of conventional pin and socket contacts to allow more cost effective sequencing and electrical customization of the connector. Wafers can be manufactured specifically for differential or single ended performance and the impedance, propagation delay, and crosstalk of the connector can be adjusted per customer requirements.

The pinless design also eliminates the pin field on backplane boards that can lead to bent pin field failures in card cage systems.

The MultiGig RT-2 connector modules are available for both 20.3mm and 25.4mm pitch card spacing. They are priced at 24 cents per mated line at OEM quantities.
